A very fine french palais royal grand tour paperweight from the early part of the 19th century. the weight is a rectangular block of black marble which is inset with floral swags of rose gold and silver. to the outer edge of the marble a single line of silver beading is inset. the paperweight is lifted by means of a handle well cast in the form of two intertwined serpents in gilt bronze of the finest quality. to the centre is an octagonal gilt bronze frame decorated with flowers. within the frame is the original mirror glass with a fine painting of the arc de triomphe with people promenading and a horseman. three slight blemishes to the mirror painting but overall in excellent condition. 5 inches wide by 3.25 inches deep by 2.5 inches high ( 12.5 cms by 8 cms by 6.25 cms).
