Nice is a fantastic destination, right in the heart of the Cote d' Azur. Surrounded by the Alps and blessed with a great climate it has everything. For the Antiques enthusiast The Cours Saleya is the best place to buy antiques, eat or just wander around enjoying the sunshine.
Most days of the week the Cours Saleya serves as a flower and produce market but on Mondays it becomes a vibrant antiques market. On summertime evenings, there is an arts and crafts market.
Along the coast, towards Monaco, Villefranche sur Mer has a small but interesting Antiques Market every Sunday morning. Specializing in collectables of all types a bargain can often be found. It is the perfect place for a lazy sunday morning after a late night in one of the many night spots on the Cote d'Azur. Highly recommended (Good Breakfast in the Le Cosmo).
Also, if you want to wander a little further afield you can visit the fantastic "Village Perche" of St. Paul de Vence. Here you can find numerous art galleries nestled in the cobbled streets and nearby the world renouned La Fondation Maeght. After a good browse around you can stop for a well deserved lunch looking out over the Mediteranean.
Not far away is the Rosaire chapel, conceived by Henri Matisse which remains a sacred art monument, unique in the world. For Henry Matisse, “this work required me 4 years of an exclusive and entiring effort and it is the fruit of my whole working life. In spite of all its imperfections I consider it as my masterpiece”. Well worth visiting.
